Bruna Moubarak, M.A.
I am a licensed counseling psychologist and trauma psychotherapist trained in New York City. Born in Beirut and raised in Abu Dhabi, I have spent over a decade volunteering my time to NGOs that support people living with disability, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, domestic violence survivors and animal rehabilitation. I find that both my professional and lived experience allow me to hold a multicultural worldview that has become crucial to my work.
My therapeutic style is integrative, aligned with person-centered and psychodynamic theory. I am rooted in the belief that everyone is the ultimate expert on their own life. I aim to help clients understand themselves better as we process the events and patterns that have impacted their wellbeing by utilizing teachings from neurobiology, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR. These techniques show us that all your “symptoms” make sense given your experience and provide a path for deep and lasting healing.
The effects of trauma, loss, social injustice, early attachment disruptions, and life transitions can all impact a person in countless ways and result in anxiety, depression, and relationship struggles. My use of both behavioral and body-oriented approaches is guided by the knowledge that stress & trauma are held and expressed in the body. Recognizing and releasing bodily pain is key to transforming emotional wounds. My clients benefit from my holistic approach – as I work by integrating mind, body, and emotions, in order to support the development of a more balanced Self.
